About the Project

Autodesk joined with Easter Island officials and two technology groups, METCO Services and Leica Geosystems, to begin this extensive mapping project in September 2007. METCO Services delivers survey and laser scanning technology and services, while Leica Geosystems provides GPS and laser scanning equipment and point-cloud processing software.

Together with Easter Island’s mayor and other officials, we are working with local government to create and use 3D digital models to visualize and understand the impact of development plans, utilizing local resources and sustainable design techniques to help protect the local environment. The land planning and analysis completed as part of this project will help island officials make informed decisions about development, protection, and education on Rapa Nui.
