Error: "ASPX file failed to run at URL: 'http://localhost/TestASP/TestASPNet.aspx'" during pre-checks

Issue

When you attempted to install Autodesk Data Management Server (ADMS) 2008, you received the following error message during the ASP pre-checks:

ASPX file failed to run at URL: "http://localhost/TestASP/TestASPNet.aspx"

Solution

This error may be caused if .NET 2.0 is installed prior to installing Microsoft® Internet Information Services (IIS) and the ASP.NET account does not have the proper permissions on the IIS Metabase. 

To resolve this error

  1. Open a Windows command prompt and navigate to the %systemroot%\microsoft.net\framework\v2.0.50727\ directory.
  2. Enter aspnet_regiis.exe -ga ASPNET if you are running Windows XP or aspnet_regiis.exe -ga "%computername%\Network Service" if you are running on a server.
  3. On the command line, enter IISRESET
  4. Run the pre-checks again to verify that the error has been resolved.
