Block attributes no longer display after reindexing database in Vault 5 or Productstream™ 5

Published date: 2007-Apr-02

Applies to:
Autodesk® Productstream™ 5
Autodesk® Vault 5

Issue

You installed Autodesk Data Management Server 5, and then you restored or migrated your database into the new release of Vault 5 or Productstream™ 5. Everything seemed to be working correctly. However, after you reindexed the database, the block attributes (properties) were no longer displayed in the Vault Explorer grid. You checked the block attributes that you had indexed through Vault Manager and you noticed that they were no longer listed.

Solution

If you have not reindexed the database in ADMS 5, follow these steps to correct this issue:

  1. In Windows Explorer, navigate to one of the folders listed below and locate the FilterConfig.xml file.
  • Vault backup folder used to restore your data in ADMS 5.
  • The <installdir>\Autodesk Data Management Server X\Server\Web\Services directory from the previous installation of ADMS. In this example, the "X" matches the previous version of ADMS that was installed. If you are migrating from Vault 4 to Vault 5, copy FilterConfig.xml from the C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Autodesk Data Management Server 4\Server\Web\Services directory.
  1. Copy the Filterconfig.xml file to the <installdir>\Autodesk Data Management Server 5\Server\Web\Services directory in the ADMS 5 installation.
  2. Perform a reindex on the Vault database without losing any block attributes that were previously indexed.

Note: Before reindexing the database, check the size of the database. If the size exceeds 1.5 GB and you are using SQL Server Desktop Edition (MSDE), you may need to upgrade to Microsoft SQL Server. Reindexing the database can cause the database size to grow. If the database exceeds 1.5 GB in size, it is possible that you could hit the 2 GB limitation imposed by the Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Edition (MSDE).

If you have already performed a reindex on the database in ADMS 5 and values of the block attributes are not displaying in the Vault Explorer or Productstream™ client, follow these steps to correct this issue:

  2. Reindex the database.

If you re-entered the block attributes in Vault Manager and performed a reindex on the database, you will probably have duplicate file properties in the database. To remove these duplicate properties

  1. Log into Vault Explorer or the Productstream client as an administrator.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Administration > File Properties.
  3. In the File Property Management dialog box, locate the duplicate properties that correspond to the block attributes.
  4. For each set of duplicate properties (block attributes), select the duplicate property, and then click Merge.
  5. Repeat Step 4 for all of the duplicate properties.
  6. Exit the File Property Management dialog box.
  7. Open Vault Manager and log in as an administrator.
  8. Reindex the database.
