How to remove and add the C-Dilla licensing software

Solution

Occasionally it is necessary to remove the C-Dilla licensing for troubleshooting purposes. This document steps you through the removal and reinstallation of the C-Dilla licensing software.

A Note about the C-Dilla software:
The C-Dilla software by Macrovision is used by 3ds max and other applications for license management. When 3ds max is launched by the user, a query is sent to the C-Dilla software to determine if there is a license file present, and if so, if it is valid. The C-Dilla software looks for and interprets the license file, which is a data file.

This data file does not uninstall with the software. This allows the user to remove the C-Dilla software in 'Add/Remove Programs', then reinstall it, without jeopardizing the license.

Downloading the C-Dilla software:

Here is the latest version of the C-Dilla Standalone License Manager software and associated ReadMe file:

Remove the C-Dilla software:

Follow these simple guidelines to successfully remove the C-Dilla service:
  1. Make sure there is no running application running in the background
  2. Go to 'Add/Remove Programs' from the Start > Settings > Control Panel (see figure 2)
  3. Select the C-Dilla License Management System application list and select 'Change/Remove' to uninstall the C-Dilla License Management (see figure 1)

Figure 1 - The Windows Add/Remove Programs dialog

  4. Save the zip file to a temporary folder (example: C:\temp): make a note of this location
  5. After you click the 'Change/Remove' option, the 'CDUNIN16' window will appear (see figure 2)

Figure 2 - The 'Uninstall' dialog

  6. Click "Next" to begin the removal process
  7. Select all the products listed
NOTE: We will only be removing the software that reads if the license is present, not the license file itself (see figure 3)

  8. Select "Next" - a confirmation window for the product selected will appear
  9. Select "Finish" (see figure 4)

  10. A final confirmation window will appear prompting you to remove all of the C-Dilla drivers
  11. Select "Yes" (see figure 5)

  12. If other applications are using C-Dilla license management system, click "Yes" at this point, and remember to reinstall the C-Dilla software later
  13. Once the application is removed, refer to the previously downloaded software for the installation

Install the C-Dilla software:

  1. Browse to the temporary folder where you downloaded the C-Dilla software, and extract the file. Again, choose a temporary folder (example: C:\temp)
  2. Confirm the extraction created a new folder called "RTS" (example: C:\temp\RTS) and navigate to that folder
  3. Run CdSetup.exe from the extracted files (see figure 6)

Figure 6 - CdSetup in the RTS folder

  4. An install window should appear
  5. Select "Install" (see figure 7)

Figure 7 - Dialog to Install the C-Dilla software

  6. The installation completes itself automatically
  7. Once the installation is complete, select "Exit" (see figure 8)

Figure 8 - Setup completed successfully

  8. Restart the computer
Congratulations! You should now be able to run all the applications that had been previously using the C-Dilla License Management software.
