Specify alternate font

Issue

If a drawing contains a font or fonts that are not available when a drawing is opened, another font is substituted. You want to be able to specify what the alternate font is.

Solution

Use one of the following methods to specify the alternate font that is used when the font in a drawing is not found.

Method #1

  1. Enter fontalt on the command line.
  2. Enter the name of the substitute font file, or enter a period (.) for none.
  3. Press ENTER.

Method #2

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. In the Options dialog box, click the Files tab.
  3. In the list on the Files tab, double-click Text Editor, Dictionary, and Font File Names.
  4. Double-click Alternate Font File.
  5. Double click the font name.
  6. In the Alternate Font dialog box, either browse to another font, enter the name of the substitute font file, or enter a period for none.
  7. Click OK.

If no alternate font is specified, the Alternate Font dialog box is displayed when you open a drawing and a font cannot be found. You can then select the font you want substituted when the drawing is opened.

Note: The default alternate font is simplex.shx.
