Clean installation on Windows® XP Issue
You want to perform a clean installation of your Autodesk® software on Windows® XP. Solution
A common troubleshooting practice for installation problems is to install the software while in safe mode. This does not work for Windows XP. In Windows XP, the installer service does not load in safe mode.
The best alternative is to use MSCONFIG to restart the Windows XP system in a state similar to safe mode but with the installer services running.
- On the Start menu (Windows), click Run.
- In the Open box, enter msconfig.
- Select Diagnostics start up to turn just about everything off.
- Click the Services tab and select Windows Installer.
- Click OK and restart Windows when prompted.
Note: This procedure does not require that you copy the contents of the CD to the hard disk, because basic CD drivers are loaded.
To get back to the normal start up:
- On the Start menu (Windows), click Run.
- In the Open box, enter msconfig.
- In the System Configuration dialog box, select Normal start up.
- Click OK and restart Windows when prompted.
