Clean uninstall of Inventor™ 2008

Issue

There are occasions when you may experience installation problems with Autodesk® Inventor™ Suite or Inventor™ Professional after failed installs or uninstalls of other Autodesk products. In these cases, it is strongly recommended that you completely remove Inventor from your system and then attempt the new installation on the cleaned system.

Solution

To uninstall Autodesk® Inventor™ and remove any remnants of the product from your computer:

Note: The full Inventor product name has been replaced by Inventor 2008 to simplify instructions.

  1. Log on as Local System Administrator and disable any virus-scanning programs.
  2. In the Control Panel (Windows), double-click Add or Remove Programs.
  3. In Add or Remove Programs,  remove the following program:
    • Autodesk Inventor 2008 (Suite, Professional, Routed Systems, or Simulation)
  4. Using Windows Explorer, browse to and delete the following directories:
    • On 32-bit operating systems:
      • C:\Program Files\ Autodesk\Inventor 2008
      • C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Autodesk\Autodesk Inventor 2008
    • On 64-bit operating systems:
      • C:\Program Files (x86)\ Autodesk\Inventor 2008
      • C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Autodesk\Autodesk Inventor 2008
  5. Click Start menu (Windows) > Run.
  6. In the Run dialog box, enter regedit in the Open box and click OK to open the Registry Editor.

Warning! Problems caused by improperly editing the Windows registry could render your computer operating system unusable. Microsoft provides a wealth of critical information that you need to know about the registry in the Microsoft Knowledge Base at http://support.microsoft.com.

Use the Microsoft® Registry Editor only at your own risk and only after backing up the registry as well as the system.dat and user.dat files as outlined for your operating system in the Microsoft Knowledge Base and in the related solution, TS66513. Additional information about the registry is also contained in the Help topics in the Microsoft Registry Editor.

  7. In the Registry Editor, locate the following subkeys and delete them:
    • On 32-bit operating systems:
      • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Autodesk\Inventor\RegistryVersion12.0
      • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk\ Inventor\RegistryVersion12.0
    • On 64-bit operating systems:
      • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Autodesk\Inventor\RegistryVersion12.0
      • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk\ Inventor\RegistryVersion12.0
  8. Exit the Registry Editor.
  9. Restart the computer.
  10. Log on as Administrator and disable any virus-scanning programs.
  11. Reinstall Autodesk Inventor.

Note: If you have Autodesk® Vault Explorer installed, you need to perform a repair of it in Add or Remove Programs (Windows) in order to fix the Inventor integration.
