Custom scales not available in other drawings

Issue

You created a custom scale using the SCALELISTEDIT command. However, you noticed that this custom scale was not available when working in other drawing files.

Solution

In AutoCAD® 2008 and later versions, the scale list is stored separately in each drawing, instead of in the AutoCAD profile (registry). Therefore, custom scales are not maintained from drawing to drawing, as they were in previous versions. This change was made as part of the Annotation Scaling feature in AutoCAD 2008.

If you want to make a custom scale list available in other drawings, use one of the following methods:

For new drawings:

  1. Open your template files (DWT) for editing.
  2. Using the SCALELISTEDIT command, add the desired scale values.

New drawings created from this template will now contain the desired custom scales.

For existing drawings:

  1. Open a new, start-from-scratch drawing file (with no existing geometry).
  2. Using the SCALELISTEDIT command, add the desired scale values.
  3. Save this drawing file to a convenient location.
  4. Click Insert menu > Block to insert this drawing as a block into the target drawing file.

The existing drawing will now contain the custom scales contained in this block.
