File Link Manager may create unpredictable results in VIZ 2008 and 3ds Max 9 Extension 1

Issue

When you were working with a .max file that was created in a current or previous version of the software and you used the File Link Manager feature, the Detach and Reload functions did not work as expected.

Solution

This is a known issue with the File Link feature in VIZ 2008 and 3ds Max 9 Extension: Productivity Booster.

VIZ 2008:

To correct this issue

  1. Download and apply the hotfix to VIZ 2008.
  2. Open the old .max file in VIZ 2008 and in the File Link dialog box.
  3. Reload the .dwg file.
  4. Save the .max file with a new filename.
  5. Open the new scene. Any materials and modifiers that you applied in VIZ prior to the application of this hotfix will have to be reapplied.

Note: This hotfix also addresses an important Double-byte compatibility issue.

3ds Max 9 Extension: Productivity Booster:

This issue will be fixed shortly with a revised version of the 3ds Max 9 Extension: Productivity Booster, which will be available in the Subscription Center.

To correct this issue once the revised version is available, follow these steps:

  1. Download and install the revised version of the 3ds Max 9 Extension: Productivity Booster.
  2. You should install this version without uninstalling the previously installed Extension.
  3. Open the original .max file in 3ds Max 9 Extension: Productivity Booster and in the File Link dialog box.
  4. Reload the .dwg, and then save the .max file with a new filename.
  5. Open the new scene. Any materials and modifiers you applied in 3ds Max prior to the application of the hotfix will have to be reapplied.
