Error: External Reference - Relative path cannot be assigned

Issue

When you tried to attach an external reference using a relative path, you received the following message:

External Reference - Relative path cannot be assigned

Solution

You will receive this error message if the drawing file that is being referenced is located on a different local hard drive or on a network server.

When you attach external references located on different local hard drives or network servers, you should use the full path.

Note: Before you attach an external reference to a drawing, the drawing file needs to be saved.
