Network licenses are not released after exiting product

Issue

You have discovered that licenses are not being returned to the Network License Manager pool for a long period of time after the connection with a client workstation is lost.

Solution

To work around this issue, it is strongly recommended that you set the TIMEOUT option. Follow these steps:

1. In Microsoft® Notepad, create an options file named adskflex.opt that contains the TIMEOUT statement.




• The syntax of the TIMEOUT statement is as follows:

  TIMEOUT [feature_code] [seconds] 

• The following statement will set a timeout for AutoCAD 2004 to 900 seconds:
  
  

  TIMEOUT 42600ACD_2004_0F 900

• To set a timeout for all products you can use the TIMEOUTALL option. The syntax of the TIMEOUTALL statement is as follows:

  TIMEOUTALL [seconds]

• The following statement will set a timeout for all products to 3600 seconds:

  TIMEOUTALL 3600

2. Save the adskflex.opt file to the same folder as the license file. The default location of the license file is C:\Program Files\Autodesk Network License Manager\License. (For AutoCAD 2002, the default location is C:\Program Files\Autodesk License Manager\License).

To make sure that the Options file is read, you must stop and restart the network license server. Follow these steps:

1. Start LMTOOLS.
2. On the Service/License File tab, make sure that the Configuration Using Services option is selected.
3. Click the Start/Stop/Reread tab.
4. On the Start/Stop/Reread tab, click Stop Server.
5. Click Start Server.
6. To confirm that the TIMEOUT option has been set, open the debug.log file. If the TIMEOUT option has been set you will see a statement similar to the example below:
   
   FEATURE   42600ACD_2004_0F INACTIVITY TIMEOUT set to 900 seconds
