Portable License Utility export grace period

You exported your standalone license using the Portable License Utility (PLU), and now when you attempt to run the software, you receive the following alert:

The license on this machine has been exported. You may continue to access the product during the export grace period. You are currently in the export grace period, which will expire on: <Date and Time>

When a license is exported, you are able to run the product for 24 hours in the export grace period as indicated by the alert dialog box. This feature is intended for emergency use only, because strictly speaking the software license has been exported and is assumed to be in use on another computer. For security reasons, this feature will not necessarily be available every time the PLU is used. If you try to use it every day, the request will be denied, even if you have re-imported the license.

Note that the 24-hour export grace period does not begin the moment that you export the license. Rather, it begins the first time you run the product after exporting. If you do not run the product after export, the grace period remains available indefinitely, so you can save it until you really need it.

After exporting a license, there are two ways to return it to the original computer:

  • Import it on the target computer, export it back, and then import it on the original computer. Occasionally you may have an urgent need to run the product for a short time, immediately after you have exported the license.
  • Start the software and enter the 24 hour grace period. Wait for this mode to expire and obtain and new Activation code for the software.

Grace period process

The first time you run the product after you export the license, you will see the following alert:

Note that this grace period expires exactly 1 day from when it was granted, to the hour. After that expiration date and time, if you run the product, you will see the following alert:

The same alert is displayed if you attempt to use the grace period again too soon, even if you have imported and exported your license again.
