Using ADSKFLEX_LICENSE_FILE and LM_LICENSE_FILE variables on same computer

Issue

You want to know what the expected behavior is when a client computer has both the ADSKFLEX_LICENSE_FILE and LM_LICENSE_FILE system variables set.

Solution

Some client computers have more than one application installed that uses the FLEXlm® network license management technology. In some configurations, Autodesk products use the system variable ADSKFLEX_LICENSE_FILE to point the client computer to the license server. Other vendors' applications may use the system variable LM_LICENSE_FILE to point client computers to the license server.

When both the ADSKFLEX_LICENSE_FILE and LM_LICENSE_FILE system variables are used on the same client computer, Autodesk products will use the ADSKFLEX_LICENSE_FILE system variable to point the client to the license server. If the client computer is not able to obtain a license from the server(s) that ADSKFLEX_LICENSE_FILE points to, the client will then try to obtain a license from the server(s) specified by LM_LICENSE_FILE.

The behavior for other vendors' products has not been tested by Autodesk. Any questions about other vendors' products should be referred to that vendor.
