Network licensing error [1.5.-4] when starting the software

Issue

When you tried to start AutoCAD® based software from a client workstation, the following error message was displayed:

The network license manager was not able to get a valid license. If this problem continues, please contact your system administrator. Error [1.5.-4]

Solution

This error indicates that all available licenses are either reserved for other users or are currently in use.

To correct this error, use one of the following methods:

  • Purchase/add more licenses to the license manager.
  • Exit AutoCAD on another computer that is currently using a license.
  • If you are using a series or suite product, such as Revit® Architecture, Revit® Structure, Civil 3D®, or Inventor™, ensure that you have the most recent PLIST increment in your license file. This ensures that products are able to cascade to the appropriate license. Refer to solution TS1056645 for additional information.
  • Consider adding an inactivity timeout to your license manager to automatically reclaim idle licenses from your users. You can configure a timeout by using an options file. For more information about configuring an options file, refer to solution TS1055247.
