Renaming Key FieldsSometimes after you define an object data table, you discover that the column you want to use as a key field in the link template is a reserved word in the database format you have chosen to export object data to (the message 'invalid column name' indicates this).
What you can do is modify the key field of an existing object data table when you convert to database links. First have a blank database attached and configured. On the Map menu, choose Tools, then 'Convert Object Data to Database Links'. Under Target Link Template, click the Define button. Check that you're connected to the data source, and then choose the Select button to select the Key Column. In the Select Template Link Key(s) dialog box, select the field you want to modify. Type the new name and then click Rename. Click OK twice. Now you've finished defining the link template.
In the Convert Object Data to Database Links dialog box, click the Proceed button to convert object data to database links. You can now disconnect the database and then reconnect it. Open the database table in Data View to see the renamed fields. You can use this procedure to rename any field in an object data table.
