2013: Installing 32-bit Installer on 64-bit Operating System

Issue

You're upgrading to the Autodesk Simulation Moldflow 2013 products on a 64-bit operating system, and during the installation you're prompted with an unexpected error that fails the installation process.

Solution

With the changes made for the Autodesk Simulation Moldflow 2013 release (additional details here) one of the main changes was to not only remove all product installers from a single DVD, but also to split the installers into a 32-bit installer and a 64-bit installer.  So now each package you receive is specific only to the product you have purchased, i.e. if you're an Autodesk Simulation Adviser user you only get an installation for Adviser.  No additional installations are provided.  This packaging includes 2 DVDs, one for the 32-bit installer and one for the 64-bit installer.

If the 32-bit installer is used on a 64-bit operating system though, an unexpected error occurs that crashes the installation and prevents you from loading the software.  It's imperative that the appropriate DVD is used to install, and if you experience this error, simply remove the 32-bit DVD and utilize the 64-bit DVD.
