Autodesk 3ds Max Services & Support

3ds Max fails to launch after sending Inventor file to 3ds Max

Problem

You have installed 3ds Max 2013 (the standalone product) and the Product Design Suite 2013 (specifically 3ds Max Design and Inventor)  on the same computer.

You are trying to launch 3ds Max after running  one of the Suite Workflows that sends Inventor data to 3ds Max Design. 3ds Max displays the following error message and fails to launch.

Solution

  • Locate the file Max2013.15.0.64.syncfg. The file location depends on the operating system:
    • For Windows 7: C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\Synergy\Max2013.15.0.64.syncfg
    • For XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Autodesk\Synergy\ Max2013.15.0.64.syncfg
  • Rename Max2013.15.0.64.syncfg to Max2013.15.0.64syncfg.ORG before running the Inventor-to-Max suite workflow.
  • Run the Send to 3ds Max command from the Suite Workflows in Inventor
  • Rename Max2013.15.0.64syncfg.ORG back to Max2013.15.0.64.syncfg after running the Inventor-to-Max suite workflow.

Note: in case you encounter file names slightly different from the one mentioned above, replace the version string “Max2013.15.0.64" with a string that reflects the version of the product that you have momentarily installed.
