Top Questions About Transferring Ownership of Autodesk Licenses (TOL)

Below are the most frequently asked questions about transferring ownership of Autodesk licenses from one organization/company to another. If you own a stand alone license and just want to move this from one computer to another, you can do so by using the License Transfer Utility.

What is a license transfer or transfer of license (TOL)?

Our software licenses are usually not transferrable to another company, but under certain circumstances, we may approve an exception application and consent to a transfer of license. A transfer of license is the transfer of software license ownership from the original licensee to a new one or a transfer of rights to use the license from one country to another.

 

How do I apply for a license transfer exception?

  1. Complete the License Transfer Exception Application.
  2. Print and sign your Application.
  3. Scan your signed Application and save it to your computer in a PDF format.
  4. Complete our online Customer Assistance web form
  5. In the How May We Assist You? Field, enter "License Transfer Exception Application."
  6. Attach all the relevant documentation to your request and a case will be created on your behalf.

 

I am in EEA or Switzerland; why do I need a different form?

Transfer of License requests occurring entirely within the EEA and/or Switzerland no longer require completion of a Transfer of License Exception Request form due to changes in local laws. Customers wishing to transfer licenses from one country within the EEA or Switzerland to another country within the EEA or Switzerland should complete the new Transfer of License Notification Form.

What kind of proof do I need to transfer a license?

Examples of acceptable documentation are:

  • A press release publicly announcing the basis for the transfer application
  • A signed certification under penalty of perjury by a senior executive of each company
  • Other reasonable evidence validating the basis for the transfer application.
  • For countries in Asia that involve governmental filings, official letters from the applicable countries’ registries are also required.

In the case of a transfer application from one country to another, documentation must be provided for both countries as appropriate.

 

What happens after I send my application to Autodesk?

We will review your License Transfer Exception Application and contact you when we reach our decision—to approve or deny your application or if we need any additional information.

 

What is the difference between applying for a License Transfer Exception vs. changing the registered company name or address on a license?

If you want to move licenses from one entity to another, like from one company to another company, apply for a License Transfer Exception.

If your company name has changed or if your company's address has changed, use the Address Change/Name Change request form.

If you want to change both the company name and the address, you will need to apply for a License Transfer Exception.
