Running prior version of a Revit Suite product, results in the use of a Building Design Suite 2012 license, instead of the Revit Suite license

Issue

You have purchased and licensed one of the AutoCAD Revit Suite 2009, 2010, or 2011 products, or one of the AutoCAD Revit Suite 2012 products with Autodesk Subscription, and you have also purchased and licensed Autodesk Building Design Suite 2012 (Standard, Premium or Ultimate) with Autodesk Subscription and need to access one of the prior versions of AutoCAD or Revit 2009, 2010, or 2011 products.  When you run the prior version of either AutoCAD or Revit from the Revit Suite product, you notice that it is the Building Design Suite license that is being consumed from the license server. 

Example #1:

You purchased two licenses of AutoCAD Revit Architecture Suite 2012, with Autodesk Subscription and you purchased five licenses of Autodesk Building Design Suite Premium 2012.  Because you are on Subscription and have previous version support, you expect that the first two users who run AutoCAD 2010 or Revit Architecture 2010 will first consume the AutoCAD Revit Architecture Suite 2012 licenses.  However, they are consuming the Autodesk Building Design Suite Premium 2012 licenses first. 

Example #2:

You purchased five licenses of AutoCAD Revit MEP Suite 2011, and you purchased three licenses of Autodesk Building Design Suite Ultimate 2012.  Because you are on Subscription and have previous version support, you expect that the first five users who run Revit MEP 2011 will first consume the AutoCAD Revit MEP 2011 licenses.  However, they are consuming the Autodesk Building Design Suite Ultimate 2012 licenses first.

Solution

To resolve this issue, you can select either of the following solutions.

1. License Server: Maintain the Revit Suite product licenses on a separate license server than the Building Design Suite 2012 product licenses.  With this solution, you would have Revit Suite users pulling licenses from the license server that contains the Revit Suite licenses, and Building Design Suite users pulling licenses from the license server that contains the Building Design Suite licenses.
2. Options File: Create an Options file on the license server, and within the Options file define a user group that is made up of all users of the prior version Revit Suite product.  With that user group defined, you can configure the Options file to exclude that user group from accessing the Building Design Suite license, so they would only be able to pull the prior version Revit Suite licenses.
3. If either of the above options do not work, please contact Autodesk Support for possible options for modifying your license file.
