Heat Transfer: Troubleshooting Energy Balance Issues for Heat Transfer Simulations
Issue
A heat transfer analysis produces a poor energy balance. Temperature results may appear “splotchy” throughout the domain.
Solution
Check the mesh--Plot the nodal aspect ratio by selecting "Stream function" from the Result Quantities dialog box. If you select this after running iterations, you should set the number of iterations to 0 and hit Solve. This processes the model and computes the desired quantity for visualization. Regions of the mesh that show high values of nodal aspect ratio are distorted and should be refined.
If the model contains surface parts, replace them with thin volumes.
