Error Message—Geometry Position for use as Axisymmetric

Issue

A two dimensional model is defined to run as axisymmetric. One of the following error messages is issued:

Error: The geometry isn't properly positioned to use an axisymmetric coordinate system

Error: The geometry is non-planar and isn't properly positioned to use an axisymmetric coordinate system

Solution

The problem is that the geometry either crosses an axis or that it is not planar:

  • Geometry that is axisymmetric about the X axis must not cross the X axis. All Y coordinates must be greater than or equal to 0.
  • Geometry that is axisymmetric about the Y axis must not cross the Y axis. All X coordinates must be greater than or equal to 0.
  • Axisymmetric geometry must be planar, and in the XY plane.

To resolve this in the CAD system:

  • Modify the position of the model so that it does not cross the axis of symmetry.
  • Ensure that the model is in the XY plane.
  • Modify the geometry so that it is planar.

In Autodesk® Simulation CFD, verify that the correct coordinate system is chosen. If the model should be run in the Cartesian 2D system, change the coordinate system from the Geometry branch of the Design Study bar.
