Boundary Layer blend: Currently this value is on and works well for most models. We have found one model that does not mesh with the value on but does mesh with it turned off. With the value turned off, sharp edges will have a sharp discontinuity that can either lead to flow divergence or worse, incorrect results. Feedback should provide information on the accuracy of results when the value is turned off versus the number of models that would not mesh unless the value was turned off.
Anisotropic blend: There’s been concern over the quality of the mesh in the area of the boundary layer and isotropic region. At the moment the transition is instantaneous – from highly anisotropic to isotropic. This can be a challenge for the isotropic mesher. Enabling this with the flag will introduce a transition in element size off the boundary layer though the transition rate is at present not something we can control. Feedback should indicate if this feature adds to meshing robustness/quality.
Note that the mesh_boundary_blend and mesh_anisotropic_blend flags are not available for the Mechanica-based Pro/E and CATIA v5 CAD Connections.
Automesh stretching factor. Currently this value is set at 1.1 in the UI. Comments have been made that a value of 1.05 creates a better mesh for the majority of models. The concern is that should the default be changes, total mesh sizes will noticeably increase and cause customer concern. Feedback should provide information about the quality of the mesh and results with a factor of 1.05 versus total mesh size issues such as time to mesh, run, and memory requirements.
To implement a flag, add the flag entry and the value to the cfdesign_flags.txt file located in the Autodesk® Simulation CFD installation folder.
