Some common problems in Inventor service pack installer and how to solve them

• Error 1328

Error  1328 occurs when the service pack installer encounters a file different from what it expected. 

If this error only occurs in certain machine but not reproducible in other machines, then the possible cause is that the file is modified by users after it is installed.

In this case, the corresponding resolution is to get the original file back by repairing/reinstalling Inventor.

• Service pack cannot be installed

If the error dialogs above pops up in the beginning of installing a service pack, following are some possible causes:

1. The service pack cannot find the product which is going to be updated. E.g.: install Inventor 2011 SP1 but there is no Inventor 2011 installed on the machine.
2. The previous service pack is missing. E.g.: install Inventor 2011 SP2 but the previous Inventor 2011 SP1 is not installed (Note: this case will never happen with cumulative SP, like in Inventor 2012, as it allows to install a latter SP without the previous SP installed).
3. Local cached product package is corrupted; in that case, reinstalling the product may be required.

• Installing/uninstalling service pack requires accessing the source media

Access to the original installation sources may be required to apply or remove the service pack.

Most of the cases are caused by non-versioned files or file modified without file version upgrade in service pack.

Inserting the required original disc can make the service pack applied or removed successfully.
