Dynamic Licensing Behavior of Autodesk Manufacturing Products and Suites

The Dynamic Licensing enables various Inventor flavors to start with the lower license available, according to the Cascading behavior (see http://usa.autodesk.com/getdoc/id=TS17437121 ) and automatically elevate to higher licenses on demand.

Executing certain add-in commands will trigger elevation to a higher license.

  1. User runs a command that needs a higher license
  2. Inventor automatically detects that a higher license is needed
  3. Inventor silently acquires the higher license
  4. Inventor returns its original license to the server

The base functionality of Inventor can be satisfied with an Autodesk Inventor license.

Similarly, the Professional functionality can be satisfied with an Autodesk Inventor Professional license.

That said, the diagram below illustrates how dynamic licensing interacts with the 2012 suites, so it focuses on the Product Design Suite and Factory Design Premium and Ultimate licenses instead.
