No layer control and no selective import when inserting DWG files in Inventor

Issue

When you try to import or insert an AutoCAD DWG file into Inventor, you get an empty dialog without layer info and without selection capabilities on the second page of the Import wizard.

As seen in the image below, in the "Layers and Objects Import options" dialog the “Selective import” control on the left is empty (in normal circumstances this control lists the layers in the imported DWG file).
This indicates that a module of the Trueview viewer has not been registered correctly (presumably because of a lack of user privileges during installation).

Solution

Manually register the acctrl.dll file with following procedure.

  1. Click the Windows Start  menu
  2. In the Accessories, locate the program for “Command Prompt”
  3. Right-click it and run the program with the option “Run as administrator”

  4. When the command prompt is active, enter the following:

regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\DWG TrueView 2012\acctrl.dll"

Use a different path to acctrl.dll if you did not install Trueview 2012 in the default location C:\Program Files\Autodesk\DWG TrueView 2012.
