Autodesk Simulation Moldflow Insight 2013 and 2012 Hardware Certification

Issue

You want to spec a machine to run Autodesk Simulation Moldflow Insight 2013 and Autodesk Moldflow Insight 2012, and are looking for benchmarking guidance on different machine configurations to determine the best machine setup for cost and functionality.  This also includes the ability to interact with the user interface as well as utilize GPU functionality.

Solution

Thirty six models of varying 3D mesh sizes (87,000-1,600,000) were analyzed to calculate time-to-solution on a broad spectrum of usage.  The time-to-solution represents the total wall clock time required by a specific machine to complete all thirty six analyses.  To ensure accuracy with these calculations, analyses were run one at a time with no other CPU-intensive or GPU-intensive programs were being run.  The UI interaction is a measure of viewing the mesh, viewing results, and interacting with other graphical features.

NOTE: The models run in 2013 won't always show faster times then those run in 2012. With the 2013 release a large portion of development was done around solver accuracy and as such to achieve this, it is possible to see longer analyses times because of this improvement to accuracy.
