Program error on start-up

Issue

The program shows an error on start-up, when using sixteen or more CPU cores.

Solution

The hair and fur plugin can't cope if there are more than 16 cores in the machine.

Workarounds for version of 3ds Max before version 2009:

  • Disable hyperthreading (which will work as long as it reduces the number of cores below 17),
  • Remove the hair and fur plugin: from the mental ray shaders folder remove the file 3dsmaxhair.dll and from the stdplugs folder remove the file hair.dlo.
