No extended information in browser feature names

Problem

After applying the Subscription Advantage Pack for Inventor 2011, using the "Show Extended Names" browser filter or setting the Application Option "Display extended information after feature node name in browser" has no effect.

You continue to see the shorter feature browser names like in Inventor 2011 without Subscription Advantage Pack.

Solution

The extended browser name functionality is defined in a file called FeatureAutoname.xml.

This file gets installed in the Design Data folder. The default location of this folder is in
%PUBLICDOCUMENTS%\Autodesk\Inventor <version>\Design Data\  with <version> = 2011 for Inventor 2011.

For Inventor 2011 on the different operating systems this location is

C:\Users\Public\Documents\Autodesk\Inventor 2011\Design Data  (for Windows7 or Vista)
C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Inventor 2011\Design Data (for XP)

Project files using a personalized Design Data folder
If you use project files pointing to a Design Data location different from the default location (see Figure 1), you will not have the FeatureAutoname.xml in that location and thus the extended feature names won't work.

To correct the situation, copy the FeatureAutoname.xml  from the default Design Data folder to your personalized Design Data folder.

In our example of 2011 on Windows7 or Vista:
copy FeatureAutoname.xml   from C:\Users\Public\Documents\Autodesk\Inventor 2011\Design Data to C:\shared\mydesigndata

In our example of 2011 on XP:
copy FeatureAutoname.xml   from C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Inventor 2011\Design Data to C:\shared\mydesigndata

Finally, if you modify your active project in an Inventor session, you will have to restart Inventor or close and reactivate your project to see the effect of your change.

Alternatively, you can download attached copy of the file to your personalized Design Data folder.

Project files using the the default Design Data folder
These project files need no corrective action as long as you keep the default Design Data folder pointing to  %PUBLICDOCUMENTS%\Autodesk\Inventor <version>\Design Data\  in the Application Options (see Figure 2). If you use a different default folder in the Application options, you will also need to copy the FeatureAutoname.xml as explained above into that new default folder.
