Sharing a Revit File with a Previous Release

Issue

You would like to save a Revit file to a previous release file format so that it can be opened in an older release of a Revit product.

Solution

Revit products do not have the ability to save a file so that it can be opened in a earlier version.  Once a file is upgraded to a release, the upgraded file can no longer be opened in an older releases of the product.

To transfer Building Information Model (BIM) data to a previous release or other BIM product, you can export your Revit model to the IFC file format and open the IFC file in the previous version of the application.  IFC allows the transfer of Building Information Modeling (BIM) data between different products or previous Revit releases.

Warning: Using this workflow may result in the loss of some Revit BIM data
