Troubleshooting a framestore ID mismatch

Problem

When the framestore ID of an existing standard filesystem volume is changed, any frames dating back from before the ID change will no longer match the current ID.

WARNING: If the framestore ID is changed on a system, all frames are lost on all partitions attached to the workstation, since the framestore ID is connected to the host machine, and not the partition. It's important to make a backup of ALL partitions when changing a framestore ID or risk losing all frames.

This issue prevents Stone and Wire and Creative Finishing applications from starting. Error messages similar to the following are displayed:

Cannot send to destination framestore ID: 57: Failed to find framestore id while establishing a connection to 57.

Solution

Perform the following tasks to troubleshoot this issue:

  1. Open a terminal and log in as root.

  2. Stop Stone and Wire:
    /usr/discreet/sw/sw_stop all

  3. Type the following command:
    /usr/discreet/sw/sw_dbd -C

This will remove all frames that have a different framestore ID that the one currently in /usr/discreet/sw/cfg/sw_storage.cfg.

  4. Restart Stone and wire:
    /usr/discreet/sw/sw_start all

Note: Running sw_dbd -C does not erase the media linked to those frames if those were managed frames. To do that, run the following command as root: /usr/discreet/sw/sw_purge -p7 -DR

Warning: Never use the sw_purge -DR command if multiple workstations are sharing the same Stone and Wire directory for managed frames.
