AlgCatOpen failed (ALGOR_ROOT_#### not set?)

Issue

You are trying to access data entry screens or model units and the following error may be displayed in the interface:

AlgCatOpen failed (ALGOR_ROOT_#### not set?)

This message may also appear in data entry fields or in the interface's ruler units position.

Solution

1. Right-click on "My Computer" (if on the desktop) or access "START" then right-clicking on "Computer" and choose "Properties".  Access the "Advanced" tab then choose the "Environment Variables" button. 
2. Edit the "System Variables" list by selecting "ALGOR_ROOT_201000", then choosing the "Edit" button.  Ensure the "Variable Value" matches the installation path for Autodesk Algor Simulation on your computer.
3. Restart the computer.
4. Access Autodesk Algor Simulation 2010 software, then access the "TOOLS|Options" pull-down menu and select the "Analysis" tab.  Choose the "Default Modeling Units..." button and ensure the unit are properly defined.

For Autodesk Algor Simulation 2010, the environment variable and path may be defined as:

ALGOR_ROOT_201000=C:\Program Files\ALGOR\2010.00\

For Autodesk Algor Simulation 2011, the environment variable and path may be defined as:

ALGOR_ROOT_201100=C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Algor Simulation 2011\

(These are the default installation paths listed above.  These paths may be different on your computer.  You can verify this path by right-clicking on the Autodesk Algor Simulation shortcut and accessing the properties.)
