Uninstalling Inventor

Issue

There are occasions when Autodesk Inventor may experience installation problems after failed installs or uninstalls of other Autodesk products. In these cases, it is recommended that you completely remove them from the system and then attempt the new installation on the cleaned system.

Solution

There are two methods you can use for uninstalling Inventor products:

1. Automated uninstallation using the Inventor Uninstall tool (release 2011 only) or the Quick Uninstall Tool (release 2012 and beyond)
2. Manual uninstallation

Refer to the sections below for an explanation of each method.

Quick Uninstall Tool (since release 2012)

This tool gets installed with the Inventor product or suite and can be accessed from the Windows Start menu.
Look for an entry with this icon 

You will see following dialog (the example is for Factory Design Suite 2012)

By default all components of Inventor or the Product Design Suite or the Factory Design Suite will be checked for removal.
Components that are common between different products are marked in grey.
If you want to preserve these components, you might uncheck their checkbox.

If for some reason the tool fails to uninstall certain components and you want to remove Inventor manually, proceed to the Manual Uninstallation section of this solution.

Uninstall Tool (release 2011 only)

To help automate the removal of Inventor you may use attached uninstall tool.This tool is not included on the media. If you would prefer to remove Inventor manually, proceed to the next section of this solution.

**Important Notes:

• This tool is available in English Only
• By default products installed with Inventor will be automatically selected for removal. Uncheck any applications that you would like to keep installed.
• If you have multiple versions of the products installed there is a risk that you might remove components that other Autodesk products require, and a Repair of those products may need to be completed.

Manual Uninstallation

To uninstall Autodesk Inventor, and remove any remnants of this product from the system follow the procedure below. The end result is a clean system on which you can install. (Please note that if you have Vault Installed, you will be required to perform a change/repair to fix the integration.)

·  Log in as Local System Administrator and disable any virus scanning programs.

·  In Windows Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs remove Autodesk Inventor <version>  with <version> = release number. Examples: 2010 or 2011 or 2012

·  Open Windows Explorer and locate then delete the following file folders as appropriate:

For Microsoft Windows7 and Vista installations:
In the paths below <version> = release number, depending on the Inventor release installed

• C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Inventor <version>  
• C:\Users\Public\Documents\Autodesk\Inventor <version>
• C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Autodesk\Inventor <version>
• C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\Inventor <version>  

For Microsoft XP installations:
In the paths below <version> = release number, depending on the Inventor release installed

• C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Inventor <version>
• C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application Data\Autodesk\Inventor <version>
• C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Application Data\Autodesk\Inventor <version>
• C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Autodesk\Inventor <version>

·  Open the system registry and locate then delete the following registry keys listed below as appropriate (Start > Run > RegEdit).

For 32-bit versions of Windows7, Vista and XP
In the registry keys below <xx.y> = 14.0 for R2010, <xx.y> = 15.0 for R2011 and <xx.y> = 16.0 for R2012

• HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Autodesk\Inventor\RegistryVersion<xx.y>
• HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk\ Inventor\RegistryVersion<xx.y>  

For 64-bit versions of Windows7, Vista and XP
In the registry keys below <xx.y> = 14.0 for R2010,  <xx.y> = 15.0 for R2011 and <xx.y> = 16.0 for R2012

• HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk\ Inventor\RegistryVersion<xx.y>  
• HKEY_ CURRENT_USER\Software\Wow6432Node\Autodesk\Inventor\  RegistryVersion<xx.y>  
• HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software \Autodesk\Inventor\RegistryVersion<xx.y>  
• HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Autodesk\Inventor\  RegistryVersion<xx.y>

Uninstalling older versions
