Unable to start license server on computer that has no C:\ drive

Issue

You are unable to get a license from the license server when starting your AutoCAD® software from the client computer. Troubleshooting reveals that the license server has no drive C.

Note: Versions prior to AutoCAD 2002 do NOT use FLEXlm® technology.

Solution

The license server requires the server computer to have a C drive.

To resolve this problem, use one of the following methods:

  • Run the license server from another server computer that has a drive C.
  • Install a drive C on the existing server computer.
  • Upgrade to AutoCAD 2004, which does not require a drive C on the license server.

The following entries are from the debug log file for the FLEXlm® license server. Notice the log entries that are looking to write to the missing C drive.

10:55:24 (lmgrd) Can't make directory C:\flexlm, errno: 2(No such file or directory)
10:55:24 (lmgrd) Can't make directory C:\flexlm, errno: 2(No such file or directory)
