Checking the network connection to the license server

Issue

You get the "no interactive network license" error, and you want to check if there is a network connectivity problem blocking Softimage from connecting to the network license server.

Solution

Check network connectivity on your computer:

  1. Open a command prompt.

  2. Ping the license server. For example, if the license server name is "lic-server", then run this command:

    ping lic-server

You can also use IP address of the license server computer.
If the license server is the local computer, then you can run "ping localhost".

  3. If ping fails, then there is a connectivity problem on your computer or network.

Check that the ports are open:

  1. Open a command prompt.

  2. Telnet to the license server. For example, if "lic-server" is the name of the license server, then run this command:

    telnet lic-server 2080

You can also use the IP address of the license server.

If telnet can connect, you will get a blank command prompt. Press CTRL+] to quit the telnet session.

If telnet cannot connect, check your firewalls, both on the workstation and the license server. The ports 2080 and 27000-270009 have to be open.
