Diagnosing license problems on a Softimage workstation

Issue

You want to know how to diagnose and troubleshoot licensing problems on the computer where you are trying to run Softimage (for example, when Softimage reports "no interactive network license available" at startup).

Solution

FLEXLM_DIAGNOSTICS

  1. Open a Softimage command prompt (click Start > All Programs > Autodesk > Autodesk Softimage 2010 > Command Prompt).
  2. In the command prompt, run these commands:
     
         set FLEXLM_DIAGNOSTICS=3
         xsi
     
      Softimage will display some diagnostic messages at startup.  
      TIP To copy the message text from the message dialogs, click the dialog and press Ctrl+C.

The diagnostics will show you what feature (license) Softimage is trying to get, and what license server Softimage is trying to use. In the diagnostic message, "License path" is the value of ADSKFLEX_LICENSE_FILE.

SoftimageLicense.log

Softimage writes a log file in %TEMP%\SoftimageLicense.log.

Open SoftimageLicense.log and look for log entries like this:

  • 19384 2009/10/30 08:29:18 VendorError=-15 [Cannot connect to server]
  • 10460 2009/10/27 15:41:36 VendorError=-18 [Server does not support this feature]
  • 10460 2009/10/27 15:41:36 AdlmIntError=20 [License check out failed]
  • 10460 2009/10/27 15:41:40 VendorError=-4 [Maximum number of users reached]
