Cannot run Softimage in Network or Standalone mode

Issue

When you try to start Softimage, you get "no interactive network license available" or "no interactive license available".  You have tried all the suggested troubleshooting, but you still cannot fix the problem. The license server is up, licenses are available, ADSKFLEX_LICENSE_FILE is set correctly, the ports 2080 and 27000-27009 are open, and the workstation can ping the license server.

You may have noticed the following additional problems:

  • If you try to run in Standalone mode, you get the "there is no interactive license available to run Softimage." error. You do not see the Register Today dialog box with the Activate and Run buttons.
  • If you set FLEXLM_DIAGNOSTICS=3 before you start Softimage, you do not get any diagnostics, even though Softimage does not get a license.
  • The %TEMP%\SoftimageLicense.log contains errors like "The root information in Product Information Table XML file is missing".

Solution

The problem is the ProductInformation.pit file. This file contains information for each Autodesk 2010 product installed on your system (as well as for Softimage 7.5, which uses the same licensing as the 2010 products).

One possible solution is to rebuild the ProductInformation.pit file by removing and then reinstalling all 2010 products.

Warning Deleting the ProductInformation.pit will break the licensing of Autodesk 2010 products. You must reinstall all 2010 products to put back the product information in the .pit file.

  1. Remove Softimage 7.5, Softimage 2010.
  2. Reboot the computer.
  3. Rename this folder (for example, rename Adlm to Backup):

    Windows XP:
    C:\Documents and settings\All Users\Application Data\Autodesk\ADLM

    Windows Vista:
    C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ADLM

    By default, the AdlM folder is hidden. In Explorer, click Tools > Folder Options, and go to the View tab. Select the Show hidden files and folders option. You should now be able to see that folder.
     
  4. Reinstall Softimage.
