Failure to initialize - SSE2 instruction sets missing

When you tried to open Inventor, the program failed to start and you received an error message similar to the one below.

The application failed to initialize properly (0xc000001d). Click on OK to terminate the application.

This issue occurred because your CPU does not support SSE2 instruction sets.

Inventor 2009 has been optimized to take advantage of the SSE2 extended instruction sets supported on Pentium 4, AMD Athlon 64 and AMD Opteron processors. Beginning with Inventor 2009, the application will not install on computers that do not support SSE2.

There are several utilities available on the internet that can be used to verify your CPU capabilities, including supported instructions sets. For example, CPUZ.
