Athié | Wohnrath (A|W) standardized on Autodesk® Revit® Architecture software for building information modeling (BIM) in 2008 to improve project coordination, enhance design integrity, and to help produce informative, high-fidelity proposals for its clients. Since then, the multidisciplinary design firm has used the BIM process to complete more than 200 corporate architecture, retrofit, and interior design projects throughout Brazil. This award recognizes those successes, as well as the firm’s innovative integration of other Autodesk products—including Autodesk® 3ds Max® Design and Autodesk® Inventor® software—into its overall BIM approach, facilitating expansion into new, complementary areas, such as furniture design and manufacturing.
Established in 1990, Athié Wohnrath (A|W) specializes in providing integrated services on all phases of corporate interior and architectural design projects, including retrofits. A|W employs approximately 380 professionals in offices in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Clients include BMF, Nike, Nextel, Microsoft, Intel, IBM, Warner Bros, and Dow Chemical.
Athié | Wohnrath (A|W) is committed to using advanced technologies and processes to deliver value to its customers. The firm standardized on Autodesk Revit Architecture software for building information modeling in 2008—before any other design firm in Brazil.
A|W has also adopted other Autodesk products, including Autodesk 3ds Max Design and Autodesk Inventor software, to complement the BIM process. A|W relies on Autodesk BIM solutions and products from the outset of most projects, using Revit Architecture and 3ds Max Design to produce winning proposals and, ultimately, to accelerate and simplify the building design process.
One recent interiors project that highlights many of these benefits is the Dow Chemical Company’s new Brazilian corporate headquarters—a nine-story, 12,000-square-meter building designed using traditional 2D methods by another architectural firm. After seeing a single presentation of the vivid, 3D Revit Architecture model that A|W created based on the original drawings, Dow engaged A|W to customize the building’s interior for greater sustainability and target LEED Gold™ Commercial Interiors certification. Using the information available through BIM, A|W quickly designed an interior space that met the client’s needs, helping to notably reduce project completion time through improvements in project coordination, design review, and cost estimating.
A|W has also used BIM from start to finish on projects involving architectural services, such as the Baker Hughes Rio Technology Center in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil by Energy Architecture. For this project, A|W created a Revit Architecture model during the pre-proposal process and modified it throughout the project. The BIM process enabled A|W to maintain accuracy and consistency, while keeping pace with numerous design changes on the highly technical project, and reducing design time significantly.
To extend the value of BIM for more sustainable designs, A|W plans to adopt Autodesk® Ecotect® Analysis sustainable building design software, which provides its subscribers with access to the Autodesk® Green Building Studio® web-based service for energy analysis, during the subscription term. The firm’s use of Autodesk BIM solutions has helped to spur tremendous growth and assisted A|W in its expansion into new areas, including product design and manufacturing. A|W uses Autodesk Inventor software to design a customized brand of furniture and lighting fixtures that clients can easily integrate into interior designs.
