Autodesk® DirectConnect software lets you exchange industrial design data efficiently with engineers using CAD products. The result is a fluid digital design workflow that eliminates rework, saves time, and preserves your design intent.
To exchange data with mechanical design and engineering products from Autodesk, such as Autodesk® AutoCAD or Autodesk® Inventor® software, a commercial DirectConnect translator is not needed. The DirectConnect software should however be installed to enable these imports.
You can buy Autodesk DirectConnect products for the following third-party data formats, unless otherwise indicated:

¹For importing SolidWorks® files, you do not need an Autodesk DirectConnect license. However, SolidWorks® 2005, 2006, 2007, or 2008 must be purchased, installed, licensed on the same machine, and running before importing the file.
