Questions and Answers
Upgrade price changes planned

What are the planned Autodesk Upgrade pricing changes?
Autodesk will simplify its upgrade pricing model as of February 1, 2013. Autodesk currently offers multiple upgrade prices based on which previous release of a product is being upgraded. These upgrade prices will be consolidated into a single "Upgrade from Previous Releases" option, which will be available to customers using products that are one to six releases immediately prior to the current release.

For example, if the current product release is 2013, the simplified Upgrade option will be available to customers with product releases from 2007 to 2012; and at the 2014 product release, the simplified Upgrade option will be available to customers with product releases from 2008 to 2013, following accepted upgrade paths.

The "Upgrade from Previous Releases" option will have an Autodesk SRP of approximately seventy percent (70%) of the current new License Autodesk SRP*, regardless of which of the six previous releases is being upgraded. Autodesk product releases more than six releases prior to the current release will no longer be eligible for upgrade.

Autodesk® Subscription will continue to be available for any upgrade to current release purchase as it is today.

Which previous releases are most impacted by this change?
As illustrated by the example below:

  • Customers wishing to upgrade to a 2013 release of a product from releases 2012, 2011 and 2010 will be materially impacted by this change as of February 1, 2013, and could therefore benefit from current prices by upgrading now
  • Customers wishing to upgrade to a 2013 release of a product from releases 2006 or earlier will also be materially impacted by this change as of February 1, 2013, and could therefore benefit from current prices by upgrading now
  • Customers wishing to upgrade to a 2013 release of a product from releases 2009, 2008 or 2007 will experience minimal impact due to this change

For price changes related to all affected Autodesk products, your Autodesk reseller would be happy to provide more details.

Which customers are affected by the Upgrade pricing changes?
The Upgrade pricing change affects both direct customers and indirect customers who buy through Autodesk channel partners. Note: Government upgrade pricing changes in the U.S. will take place mid-March 2013 or later.

Does the Upgrade pricing change affect Autodesk Subscription customers?
No, this pricing change does not affect software licenses under a valid Autodesk Subscription. Products under a valid Autodesk Subscription will continue to receive the benefits of Subscription.

Why is Autodesk making this change?
Autodesk is streamlining upgrade pricing in part to better match the needs and buying behaviors of customers. A significant number of customers have already moved to Autodesk Subscription, and only a small percentage of those who do not have Autodesk Subscription purchase upgrades on an annual basis. For many customers, Autodesk Subscription may continue to be the most convenient and cost-effective way to keep their software up-to-date. Additionally, the expansion of the Autodesk Subscription offering, which includes a broader range of cloud computing capabilities, will reinforce the benefits of becoming a subscriber.

Why should customers consider Subscription?
Subscription is the most efficient and cost-effective way for customers to benefit from their software investment. For a yearly predictable cost, not only does Autodesk Subscription provide access immediately and systematically to the latest software releases, but also offers flexible licensing options and helps with technical issues online. It is also an entry point to several cloud benefits, allowing users to work anytime and optimize designs with the virtually infinite cloud computing power of Autodesk® 360.

When will the Upgrade pricing changes take effect?
The Upgrade pricing changes will take effect February 1, 2013.

Whom do I contact if I have a question about the new Upgrade pricing changes?
