J. Hallam Dawson is the retired chairman of IDI Associates, a private Latin American investment bank headquartered in San Francisco which he founded in 1985. From 1975 to 1984 he was with Crocker National Bank in San Francisco, initially running its International Division and then serving as its president and a member of its board from 1980 to 1984. Prior to joining Crocker he was with The First National Bank of Chicago for 14 years, serving in Chicago, New York, Mexico City, and London.
Dawson is a past president of the California Bankers Association and of the Bankers' Association for Foreign Trade, the leading international banking association. He graduated magna cum laude from Vanderbilt University with a BA in Economics, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and is a Harvard Business School MBA graduate.
Dawson is also actively involved as a vice-chairman of One PacificCoast Bank, a community development bank based in Oakland, California, and with operations in Northern California and the Pacific Northwest.
