Board of Directors Prior to joining Intuit in 2006, Halvorsen was vice president and center director at HP Labs. At HP he started the advanced technology and research activities in support of HP’s services business and grew them to comprise four laboratories in the United States and Europe. Halvorsen also led the effort to establish HP Labs India and China—the first overseas research labs devoted to creating products and services for the local market of any American information technology company. From 1983 through 2000, Halvorsen was at the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center (Xerox PARC), where he was the founding director of the Information Sciences and Technologies Lab. Under his direction, the lab became a leading center for research on the fundamental forces driving the evolution of the Internet. Halvorsen is a member of the board of directors of Iron Mountain Inc. and finn.no, Norway's leading online market place. He has served on the board of directors of Symantec and on the National Academy of Sciences Committee on Internet Navigation and the Domain Name System. Halvorsen has an M.A. and Ph.D. in linguistics from The University of Texas at Austin and was a post-doctoral fellow and research scientist at the Sloan Center for Cognitive Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He has authored numerous scientific books and is a co-inventor on several patents.
