Harley-Davidson - The Museum Won Autodesk BIM Award [Chinese]
The article reported on Autodesk’s announcement of Mortenson Construction being selected to receive Autodesk BIM Award. Mortenson Construction is recognized for its use of Autodesk product portfolio software, including Revit Architecture, Revit MEP, Revit Structure, AutoCAD Civil 3D, AutoCAD MEP and Navisworks. Making BIM the Foundation: HNTB Federal Designs Two Successful Projects Using BIM
A byline, by Lauren Browne, ConnectPress Editor, reported that HNTB Federal recently designed two government buildings, the U.S. Army Human Resources Center of Excellence at Fort Knox and phase I Wheeled and Tracked Vehicle Maintenance Training School at Fort Lee using BIM as the foundation of the projects. Browne noted that for both projects HNTB Federal used a combination of Autodesk Revit MEP, Revit Structure, Revit Architecture, Navisworks and 3ds Max Design. The use of BIM was stated in the proposal, providing an efficient modeling process that allowed designers to all stay on the same page and collaborate. Browne also mentioned that in the construction process, the BIM model was used for a 4D Navisworks sequencing model to help with phasing and sequencing the construction and to understand how the project was to be built. Further, Browne added that HNTB Federal was also selected to receive an Autodesk BIM Experience Award because of its impressive implementation of BIM in such large-scale project

A Healthy Overhaul: Pembury Hospital
The article reported that the Engineering and Environmental Consultant Gifford’s structural engineering team under the leadership of Tony Bassett, Director of Gifford, and the technical guidance of Lee Zebedee, worked with Excitech’s consultants and trainers to review Autodesk’s Revit Structure software. After running a detailed assessment, Revit Structure was used to create a modern superstructure for the consolidated redevelopment of Pembury Hospital and Kent & Sussex Hospital into a modern facility on the Pembury site. The article noted that all the Gifford 3D design and visualisation was done in Revit Structure, but initially all 2D working drawings were exported from Revit and tweaked’ in AutoCAD.

Autodesk Announced New Versions of Revit [Spanish]
Autodesk announced the availability of new versions of Revit BIM, designed for personal computers using 64 bits Windows operating systems. This operation applies to Revit Architecture 2009, Revit Structure 2009 and Revit MEP 2009. The beta testers have reported that the new software applications offer a better performance and stability for tasks that require plenty of memory such as rendering, printing, updating of model and import and export files. Jamie Richardson, Managing Partner & CAD, in Ericksen Roed & Associates, said, "We've been in beta testing phase of the software for 64-bit Revit Structure and the increase in efficiency and productivity are impressive."

Extended Autodesk AutoCAD Revit Structure Suite [German]

New Updates to SmartBIM Give Revit Users More Tools to Effectively Implement BIM

BIM in the Real World

Weisenberger mentioned that a survey conducted in 2008 by the Structural Engineering Institute’s BIM Committee indicated that more than half of the structural engineering firms use BIM software – Tekla Structures 9% and Bentley Structural 13.5% and Autodesk’s Revit Structure at 60%.
