Autodesk® Seek is a robust new web service that gives architects and engineers the ability to search, select, and specify generic or manufacturer-specific building products and associated design content, including 3D models, 2D drawings, specifications, and descriptions, from within their Autodesk software package or a standard Internet browser.
Given the large and loyal AutoCAD® and Revit® customer bases, Autodesk is uniquely positioned to connect users with building product manufacturers.
Unlike standard, mainstream search engines, Autodesk Seek employs a powerful parametric search engine that allows you to search for products using detailed attributes, enabling a rich experience that returns highly relevant and specific results from across multiple product categories, direct from building product manufacturers or content publishers.
Designers and engineers working in the architecture, engineering, and construction industry will find Autodesk Seek very useful. We plan to extend the service to include mechanical designers in the future.
When searching for a product or component, select the row in the search results page. You can view additional details about the product or component and download the file directly into your design using Autodesk® i-drop® XML-based technology, allowing you to drag and drop content straight into your drawing session.
The use of downloaded files is governed by a Terms of Use agreement. Please familiarize yourself with the terms, conditions, and disclaimers that affect your rights regarding the service.
The service allows you to select and specify design files or product specifications regardless of format. You will find everything from Revit product family files and DWG™ files to DGN and SKP files to Microsoft® Word documents, three-part specifications, and PDFs.
You can self-publish product data directly with easy-to-use publishing tools. Please contact seek.manufacturers@autodesk.com for more information.
We are indexing and categorizing content from several external sources, including aggregators like McGraw-Hill Construction Sweets Network®, Reed Construction Data®, Architectural Data Systems™ (ADS), and BIMWorld™. You can also find products in the content libraries provided with Revit® Architecture, Revit® MEP, Revit® Structure, AutoCAD® Architecture, and AutoCAD® MEP software applications. We will be updating content constantly so keep checking back.
Product manufacturers or data publishers maintain ownership of the data. Autodesk facilitates the open exchange and free flow of product information between designers and their peers, and between designers and building product manufacturers in a scalable “ecosystem” controlled by the creators and users of product data.
Autodesk Seek will be updated constantly. Please check it out frequently.
You can choose to filter by file type (DWG, RFA, SKP, etc.) or by content type (2D file, 3D file, etc.) either prior to running your search query or after you have a set of results. In addition, you can filter with an additional set of parameters such as manufacturer, width, and height, on the set of results received.
The browse capability on Autodesk Seek allows you to search for content using architecture, engineering, and construction industry-standard classifications, including MasterFormat 2004, Omniclass 1.0, and Uniformat II.
Featured Content is highly detailed and higher-quality product data that contains richer descriptions, including detailed properties that allow you to search using more descriptive filters, such as dimensional and performance data.
Problems can be reported by emailing us. You are also encouraged to post questions on our discussion group at Autodesk Content Search.
This is a web service, so all you need is an Internet connection and a standard web browser. We recommend Firefox 2.0 (or higher) or Microsoft® Internet Explorer® 7.
