In 2008, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Executive Board made the decision to implement AutoCAD Civil 3D to develop roadway designs.

With this decision, FDOT intends to have a diversified CADD delivery platform based upon the in-house resources and the demands of their Districts.

What this means to civil engineering professionals in Florida:

• Historically used for FDOT survey work, CAiCE is still in use by consultants of FDOT.
• On a project by project basis, FDOT determines project deliverable requirements based on AutoCAD Civil 3D or an alternative platform. Consultants hired will then be required to provide deliverables based on the platform selected. The districts may choose to start receiving AutoCAD Civil 3D deliverables upon final management approval of the AutoCAD Civil 3D state kit.
• Several local resellers have received Autodesk training on FDOT workflows for survey and design. Those resellers, in turn, have started to train FDOT district staff..

Currently, FDOT is refining a State Kit for AutoCAD Civil 3D 2012.

When beta testing is complete, the state kit installation will be located on the usual software downloads pages accessible from here.

It is estimated that the availability of the production ready state kit is mid-October 2011.
