Nova Design: Fighter Motorbike and Transformer
Companies: Nova Design
Reverse engineering a 2-plus meter transforming robot from a real-live production motorbike can get a little mind-bending. But if anyone could do it, it was Nova Design. One of the world’s largest independent design firms, Nova employs 250 people from 12 countries in seven offices ranging from China to Italy to the United States.
The SYM Fighter Motorbike
Designed in Shanghai and Milan by Nova and manufactured in Taiwan, the SYM Fighter 150 is Taiwan’s best-selling motorbike in its class. Using a single digital model from early 2D sketches through design modeling, visualization, and final technical surfacing, Nova’s designers wanted to emphasize the aggressiveness of the Fighter’s dual headlights to attract consumer attention.
The SYM Fighter Transforming Robot
The Nova SYM Fighter transforming robot is based on the original chassis and engine of the SYM-produced motorbike. Using a single digital model, Nova’s designers, engineers, and model makers collaborated to design more than 100 individual components to create the robot. Development in a mixed 2D and 3D environment improves collaboration among conceptual, mechanical, and electrical systems design.
