BMW Showroom Company: ONL [Oosterhuis_Lénárd] Industry: Architecture, Engineering & Construction
ONL uses building information modeling (BIM) to create stylized architecture based on automotive design and the principle of mass customization. Conceptual Design Beginning with pen-and-paper sketches, ONL designers used BIM solutions and surface modeling tools to create preliminary wireframe sketches that help determine the buildings’ dimensions and shape. Design Development With the building shape defined, more complex, accurate 3D models were created to develop precise building geometry. Visualization Early designs reflected the distinctive front grille of BMW cars, while the rounded front windows resemble curved BMW headlights. Construction ONL used digital design-to-fabrication processes to significantly streamline production, producing innovative architecture faster and more economically.
