Visual data containing information about the inside, outside, and underside of an urban environment gives users and operators a 360-degree view of structures and urban areas. Building floor plans and utility information can be integrated with geospatial data of the surrounding area, and 3D models of buildings can be inserted into a new development scenario.

The Autodesk U-Vis 360 framework can allow an organization--including non-technical users--to visualize precise data for increased knowledge about a situation and mission at hand that require better and faster decision making.

Custom solutions and applications can be designed for comprehensive facility management, emergency response, city planning, public works project visualization, and more complex weapon system simulations.

The Autodesk U-Vis 360 framework consists of tools and technologies that enable government agencies and departments to:

  • Integrate previously disparate sources of visual data about the inside, outside, and underside of structures.
  • Exploit “smart” data about the properties or attributes of those structures.
  • Filter that information to meet the needs of different decision-making functions.
  • Deliver the results in the best way to support a range of government roles–from urban planners and facilities managers to mission controllers in emergency-response and security services.

Examples of This Framework in Action

iMOUT Transforms Military Planning

The iMOUT™ (Military Operations on Urbanized Terrain) solution is an Autodesk offering that helps the military improve planning for operations in complex urban environments. It gives planners an integrated view of urban structures “inside” (architectural design), “outside” (3D digital terrain modeling), and “under” (subterranean infrastructure modeling).

The result is an accurate, interactive, 360-degree model of urban environments that leverages existing data and is tailored to the specific needs of military planners.

Centralizing Data Improves Emergency Response in Wisconsin

Autodesk solutions have helped emergency teams in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, improve responsiveness, strategy, training, and preparedness by leveraging multiple sources of data. With Autodesk solutions, the city can combine GIS (Geographic Information Systems)  data, fire pre-plan data, digital photos, building floor-plan data (in multiple formats), and related information such as the location of gas and electric shut-offs. The result is visualized to enhance decision-making for emergency-response teams.

"Before the implementation of Autodesk ER solutions, the City of Sheboygan's departments never dreamed it was possible to leverage all the various data sources they had available to them, much less have it available in their response vehicles.”

— Tom Horness, Senior GIS and CAD Specialist, City of Sheboygan

Winner of the U-Vis 360 Challenge: MetroPlanning

MetroPlanning, located in Springfield Oregon, utilized Autodesk Maya and Autodesk AutoCAD to help create a 3D visualization for a set of proposed row houses in a planned community (Crescent Village, Eugene Oregon). They also developed in-house tools created in Python to integrate GIS data with 3D data in Maya. The resulting fly-through animation illustrated the external and internal views of the community development. The business benefit realized by MetroPlanning was an accelerated approval process for the community development.
