Autodesk Topobase

Autodesk® Topobase™ is an infrastructure asset management solution that provides centralized, flexible, and secure access to spatial information for planning, design, operations and business teams.

The product is in two versions: Autodesk Topobase Client and Autodesk Topobase Web.

Autodesk Topobase Client, which runs in the desktop environment, is built on AutoCAD Map 3D and Oracle software, while Autodesk Topobase Web, which runs in the Web environment, is built on Autodesk MapGuide and Oracle. In both environments, Autodesk Topobase provides a solution for integrating CAD, map, asset, GIS and customer information.

Autodesk Topobase has standard application modules for managing a wide variety of infrastructure systems, including water, wastewater, gas, electric, and more. Each module has a detailed and configurable data model, workflows and business rules to provide consistency in working with the database, and multiple display models to enable users view information in the most relevant and appropriate format.

Programming Tools and Setup
Autodesk Topobase provides a comprehensive .NET API for data access and management as well as user interface customization.

Topobase application development is typically done in C# or VB.NET and the recommended environment for release 2009 applications is Visual Studio .NET 2005.

There is also a server-side API, which, for Autodesk Topobase 2009, runs in Oracle 10g or 11g and is written in Java 1.4 and PL/SQL. It provides data model editing functionality and is very useful for data migration.

All assemblies required for Topobase application development are installed with the product and can be found in the BIN subfolder in the installation directory.

Source Code Samples
Autodesk Topobase ships with over 70 code samples showing how to use various aspects of the API. These samples are available in both C# and VB.NET and can be found in the Development\Samples subfolder in the installation directory.

Documentation
There are API Help files on the different parts of the API in the Development\API Documentation subfolder in the installation directory. There is also a Developers Guide and an extensive range of product usage Help and support documents in the Help subfolder.
