Frequently Asked Questions

1. How is the architecture of AutoCAD OEM 2010 different from that of the AutoCAD 2010 product?

AutoCAD® software customers have access to the software’s feature set and can extend the feature set through the loading of additional applications, as well as Visual LISP®, Visual Basic® (VB), and Visual Basic® for Applications (VBA). AutoCAD has an open architecture that enables developers to customize and extend the baseline functionality through several APIs.

A product developed using AutoCAD® OEM software, on the other hand, can provide customers with a subset of the complete AutoCAD feature set, in addition to custom features created by the AutoCAD OEM developer. This strategy gives users only the features they need in a customized environment.

2. What documentation and training are available to developers?

AutoCAD software programming interfaces are extensively documented, and several application samples are available in the AutoCAD help file. For information on porting applications based on programming interfaces—including ObjectARX® scripting—read the "Migration Guide for Applications" section of the ObjectARX documentation included with AutoCAD OEM 2010. You should also be able to find porting information for .NET Framework, Visual LISP, Visual Basic (VB), Visual Basic for Applications (VBA), and ActiveX® (COM Automation).

3. How is AutoCAD OEM 2010 licensed?

AutoCAD OEM 2010 CAD development software is selectively licensed. Developers must apply for a developer license by submitting a business plan to Autodesk. For more information, contact an Autodesk ISV Partner Representative.

4. How do customers know that a product is built on the AutoCAD OEM 2010 platform?

AutoCAD OEM 2010 licensees are provided with a “Powered with Autodesk Technology” logo kit. This logo identifies the product as being based on the AutoCAD OEM 2010 platform. The logo must be displayed on your product’s startup screen and About box. The About box must also include Autodesk in its copyright section. Other than that, the AutoCAD OEM 2010-based product takes on the look and feel you choose.

5. Can I try AutoCAD OEM 2010 before I license it?

Yes. To obtain an AutoCAD OEM CAD development software trial, contact an Autodesk ISV Partner Representative.
